Education is a top priority in St. Petersburg, where we are serious about the curriculum choices that will enable all students to reach their full potential. The public school system consists of one county-wide district - Pinellas County Schools - where a school choice program enables parents to choose up to five schools they would like to be considered for their children. Residents who opt for a private school can select from over 90 schools in the county.

In higher education, St. Petersburg is home to nationally recognized universities as well as some of the finest names in marine science in the southeast. These include the Florida Institute of Oceanography at USF, the U.S. Geological Survey's Center for Coastal Geology, and the Florida Marine Research Institute which is a part of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
